If I talk about Islam, it’s a beautiful religion that gives all the rights to the people following. People are free to live on their own but there are some restrictions also. Some boundaries have been set which show us what is Haram or what is halal in Islam.

Moreover, many things are also forbidden in Islam. Haircuts are a major part of one’s life but do you know if all types of haircuts are halal or Haram in Islam? In this article, I will tell you about the Haram and halal Haircuts in Islam for Ladies.

Is Cutting Hair Halal or Haram For Muslim Women?

Cutting hair in Islam for Muslim women is not Haram except for some of the reasons which are to the extent to be considered Haram. Therefore, women can cut their hair whenever she wants without considering it a Haram act.

Moreover, there are some certainties due to which cutting hair for women is somehow considered Haram. If a woman aims to praise herself and impress her husband, she can cut her hair whenever she wants to or if want to reduce the length of her hair, the haircut could be taken.

But, other than this there are some reasons why cutting hair has been declared Haram for Muslim women. Some of  the reasons are as follows:

  • If the woman shows herself to a non-mahram man to attract him towards herself, then cutting hair is not halal.
  • Moreover, when a haircut is taken like a man’s haircut, it is prohibited in Islam.
  • The haircut should be taken by a woman if a non-mahram man does so, it has been added to the list of Haram things.

Many scholars indicated the haircut for ladies as a Haram act. In addition, different scholars gave their fatwas and reasons that which hairstyles are Haram.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymin (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“For a woman to cut her hair was regarded as makruh (disliked) by some scholars, and some scholars said it is haram (forbidden), and some scholars said it is permissible.

It means that different scholars have different aspects in the query of cutting hair. Most of them declared the haircut as a Haram act. But, we should follow the teachings of Islam and Sunnah and act accordingly.

Haram Haircuts In Islam For Ladies:

There are many haircuts for ladies which have been restricted and strictly prohibited in Islam. Women are not allowed to cut their hair in the following ways as Islam doesn’t allow women to do so. A lot of hadiths and fatwas of many Islamic scholars show which haircuts are halal and which haircuts are Haram in Islam.

Therefore, I have shortlisted some of the main haircuts for women which are Haram in Islam and will help all ladies out there who want to take a haircut. Have a look.

1. Haircuts Like A Man:

Hadith of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 5435).

Haircuts like men or haircuts which imitate men are strictly forbidden in Islam for Ladies. Ladies should not take such haircuts which makes them look like a boy as Islam doesn’t allow them to do that.

2. Shaving Head:

Al-Khallaal reported from Qutaadah from ‘Ikrimah who said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade women to shave their heads.”

This indicates that it is not permissible in Islam for a woman to shave her hair. Until and unless there is no genuine reason and no option left other than that, shaving the heads of ladies is highly prohibited in Islam.

3. To Imitate Some Other Culture By Taking Their Haircut

“Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Abu Dawud)

There is also a lot of confusion surrounding the idea that it is forbidden to cut hair in a manner that mimics disbelieving women, an attitude derived from the Prophetic statement.

Women should not take such haircuts which imitate other cultures or the non-muslim culture as it is forbidden in Islam.

4. Shaping Hair With The Hump At The Top

In a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), it is said that:

“I will not be a witness for two types of people who are destined for the fire: people with whips, like the tails of cows, who beat the people and women who, although clothed, are yet naked seducing and being seduced, their hairstyle like the tilted humps of camels. These will not enter the paradise nor will its fragrance reach them although its fragrance reaches a very great distance.” [Muslim]

The Hadith clearly shows us that women are not allowed to shape their hair or style their hair with a camel hump at the top. If she does so, it is considered a Haram act.
